Seven Awesome Gadgets to Gift the Artsy Photographer

“Look at the subject, think about it before photography, look until it becomes alive and looks back into you,” advises Edward Steichen, master photographer of the early 1900s.This American photographer expounds upon Nadar's concept of photographing the sitter through manipulation of the negative and with knowledge of painting to convey mood and to show a more genuine rendition of the sitter-a true portrait.

Shot within the same context of a carte-de-visite, the usual regalia of furniture and flowers are present in the image of the portrait. The subject sits for the camera, all is as expected. Except, the camera rests at a lower angle. This puts the subject in a position of hierarchal greatness; he looks down to the viewer. Automatically, the viewer feels inferior. Also, from the lowered angle, the shadows under the subject's eyes are lengthened making for quite a domineering and frightening expression. Those abysmal eyes restrict the viewer's glance into a continuous staring contest (trust me, you'll never win).

There is a bit of distance, safe distance, between the sitter and the camera. At first the viewer's eyes see the brilliant white of the sitter's forehand, then the glances travel down to the hands, maybe flowers, ending with this floating bubble. An interesting detail is the play of opposites: the stark contrast of black and white, the man's stern expression juxtaposed with flowers and a delicate ephemeral bubble against an opaque background. The shadows of the night blanket the background rendering the window useless; it offers no picturesque scene. Even the floor is painted by night letting the sitter hover above us with the bubble. But who is this man?

Taking the title into consideration, the viewer learns that the sitter is the Bavarian composer/conductor Richard Strauss of the late Romantic era. Nowadays he is famous for composing “Thus Spake Zarathustra” popularized by Kubrick's “2001: A Space Odyssesy.” Suddenly the man hovering in the shadows transforms into this genius ready to leap out of his chair. In fact, he might be after the bubble, possibly an illustration of his inspiration or a representation of an introductory theme playing in his mind. The subject is not some ordinary depiction of a bloated grandfather type overcome by finances, but that of a creative genius internally wrought by the overwhelming need to express his art in an attempt to make sense of the world. He appears to leap out of the shadows judging by the placement of his hands upon the armchair in relation to the forward thrusting of his head. As if waiting for the conductor's baton to direct, Strauss waits in preparation for a start. This was Steichen's preferred notion to depict musicians and conductors in movement; just as music moves, so are those affected by it.

Edward Steichen is quite sympathetic to Strauss, obviously affected by the composer's music. There is a definite quality of reverence, perhaps fear enveloped in this photograph transferred to the viewer through his intense gaze. The composition of this photograph relays Steichen's personal connection to his music. Steichen could have portrayed Strauss as the stereotypical composer seated in front of the piano, pencil in hand, jotting a few notes down as he trills about the keys. Instead, he chooses to portray the composer as though the power of the music radiates from within him. His portrait need not have an illustration of his trade, as children's books tend to show. Steichen attempts to manufacture an iconic representation of the composer. Reinterpreting the photograph from Roland Barthes angle, Edward Steichen depicts Richard Strauss through intense characterization of his music, how the photographer envisions the sitter's portrait. Through analysis of the photograph, Steichen must see Strauss as a man of great virtuosity. The composer's greatest assets, his mind and hands, are highlighted in great contrast to the rest of the photograph as if his sole purpose is to dream and to play.

Steichen's use of extreme contrast is another important quality in analyzing the aesthetics of the photograph. Steichen makes an effort to create a chiaroscuro effect reminiscent of Rembrandt. Since a young child, Steichen studied painting, and in fact lived in Paris hanging out in the same social circles as Picasso, Mantises and Rodin. Because photography was in stiff competition with painting around the turn of the century, photographers actually manipulated their negatives to make them appear more painterly. Some common techniques of these sneaky photographers included jogging the tripod to create a muted blur, limiting the depth of field, or dipping the lens in a bath of water or glycerin to create a misty glow. Actually, according to a scholarly journal written by William Homer, “Steichen would often purposely throw the lens out of focus, kick the tripod during the exposure, or even spit on the lens”. After making all these appropriations to the image, the hope was to elevate the status of the photographic image as fine art by mimicking fine art. As a pictorialist photographer, Steichen manages to express a certain mood of austerity. Shadows hide the room and they had the sitter's eyes. The sitter's body is indiscernible.

The viewer might identify with the sitter if they are in fact a composer resting on a classical hit. Otherwise, the general public will feel quite removed not only as to who the sitter is, but what he represents in music history. A decent knowledge of the background of Richard Strauss is needed in order to fully appreciate the image. In a perfect setting, the composer's music would be playing in the background with triumphant drums and a proclaiming horn section. In the midst of rumble the viewer might forgivably mistake Richard Strauss to be the Übermensch. Just as viewers may not readily feel comfortable with Steichen's portrait of Strauss, Strauss certainly does not fix himself to his surroundings. He is restlessly contained among the decorative fixtures that do not serve him any meaning. He is not concerned with materiality like earlier Nadar photographs exhibited displaying luxurious goods, expensive furniture, and imported flowers. These items do not represent the identity of the sitter, and he does not need to impress those he calls upon with his splendid carte-de-visite. The lighting hides much information necessary allowing for more artistic expression. His objective is dissonance, harmonic interludes, and grabbing that bubble. The lighting reveals only the composer's visage and hands, every other aspect of the room is under shadow seemingly unimportant to the viewer.

The presence of the ominous orb floating in front of Strauss is unexplained. Is it a brass knob to a bed, a crystal ball, or is it just a bubble? Contrasting to Escher's “Hand with Reflecting Sphere” where the artist peers into the mirrored orb and the room is revealed to the viewer, the orb in Strauss's portrait obscures the environment. If only Strauss was to get up from his armchair, he might be able to reach it. And if Steichen were to reveal everything in his images, the viewer would just realize the bubble was the photographer's spit creating a lovely blurred moment.

If anything, this image of Richard Strauss is evidence that photography has many applications in life. It can be used to express what cannot be said, it records anything revealed by light and at the same time hides information in the shadows. Images can be made to tell the truth or to create illusions. What differentiates Edward Steichen from other photographers is his command in manipulating the negative and his great vision to create a secondary image. Instead of merely documenting the subject that sits before the camera in a rigidly dogmatic form, Steichen uses extreme contrast and other technical manipulations to convey a mysterious mood that interests the viewer. And the reason the image captivates the viewer, besides the strange appearance of a floating orb, is the sparkling personality shining through those dark hypnotic eyes of Strauss.

Anne Hathaway, Tom Sherak announced the 2010 Best Picture nominees

Anne Hathaway, 2009 best actress nominee for Rachel Getting Married, and Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences president Tom Sherak announced the nominees in the top categories of the 2010 Academy Awards at a “nominations event” held at 5:30 a.m. PT Tuesday at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

There were no major surprises this year, though some eyebrows were raised (and there was some clapping, too) when the John Lee Hancock-directed Sandra Bullock vehicle The Blind Side was named one of the ten nominees. The other nine are: James Cameron’s Avatar, Neill Blomkamp’s District 9, Lone Scherfig’s An Education, Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker, Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, Lee DanielsPrecious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire, Joel and Ethan Coen’s A Serious Man, Pete Docter’s Up and Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air.

The two favorites this year are the sci-fi adventure Avatar and the Iraq War drama The Hurt Locker. Each has nine nominations, including best director. The Hurt Locker was also shortlisted in the best original screenplay and best actor (Jeremy Renner) categories.

Where to Buy a Motorola DROID Screen Protector

Discos BluRay by AlexSlocker

hier klicken

The Motorola Aura Cell Phone made its first appearance at CES 2009. The new Motorola Aura Cell Phone is designed to be a product in the upper-echelon of consumers, and is going to come with a price tag of $2,000. That is not a mis-print, the cost of the new Motorola Aura Cell Phone is going to be $2,000. The appeal of the new Motorola phone will be its sleek design, and circular LCD screen, but it also seems that be setting such a high price-point, that Motorola will be going for a specific type of consumer.

According to the Motorola web-site devoted to the Aura Cell Phone, there are many niceties that are going to set the Aura Cell Phone apart from everything else on the market. It will have a complete steel housing, 700+ individual components, an assisted-opening blade mechanism, and the world's first 16-million color and circular display. To put it bluntly, this is going to be an extremely fancy phone, and the presentation on the circular screen is going to set it apart from anything that consumers have seen on the market before.

The amenities of the Motorola Aura Cell Phone don't stop there though, as it also has a 62 carat sapphire crystal lens, tungsten carbide coated gears, and a mirror polish finish that is going to keep the phone shiny and polished for the duration of its use. The phone will also flip around the bottom part to reveal a shiny new keypad for the Motorola products, and give the user something spectacular in the visually appealing department of technological advances. It is going to come with a 2 mega-pixel camera, a battery that will last close to 8 hours of continues time, and present all of this in a compact package that will be easy to carry around.

The is really a phone geared towards being owned by the wealthy, and the design and appearance of the new Motorola Aura gives the feeling that it is something straight from the future. It is really something to look at, but it will be a different story about whether it actually works as well as the people at Motorola are claiming that it should. The only real downfall to the product is that the price-point of $2000 will make it so that nobody in the “normal” population is going to be able to afford it, and it could quickly become a status symbol. While flashy to look it, one can only help but question the practicalities of owning a phone like this.

Ultra-wide angle lenses have always been in demand by architectural, corporate, and other top pro photographers. This new lens features completely redesigned optics including 2 high-precision Aspherical elements and two totally new UD-glass elements. The result is superior image quality: better contrast and sharpness at the outer edges, and a reduction in chromatic aberrations that can sometimes be seen with high-resolution digital SLRs. Its diagonal angle of view is an impressive 114?-anything larger would be a Fisheye lens. It has a built-in lens hood, and has been dust- and moisture- proofed. The lens uses a rear focusing system, high-speed CPU, and a powerful ring-type USM with revised electronics for faster, more responsive AF. This lens continues the proud tradition of superior clarity optics found in L-series Canon lenses.

Canon vs Fuji

In my opinion, a Canon digital camera is 100% better than a Fuji digital camera. I have owned Fuji digital cameras for many years and never really had many complaints. Fuji takes great pictures if the lighting is right. They are simple to use, with just enough manual controls to make things easy for the beginners. However, I recently received a Canon A410 digital camera. It really rocks!! I couldn't believe the quality of the pictures it takes.

It has 3.2 mega pixels and the pictures are so clear. Even the macro zoom gives you clear images from 2 inches away. It also has 3.2x optical zoom. This camera is so simple that a beginner will be able to use it with no problems with it set on auto. With all the manual settings, it will even thrill the more advanced photographer. When I first got the camera, I tried out all the different settings to find out which I liked best. All the pics were gorgeous! Then I turned it to Auto, and guess what! The pics still came out perfectly!! I even took some pics in an almost totally dark room. It picked up my subject so clearly!

If you are thinking about buying a digital camera, I would highly recommend buying a Canon. A new Canon A410 will cost you around $100-150. It is well worth the price! I know I will never buy anything but a Canon from now on.

The following is all the technical data and information:

Gold Playstation 3 Released: 24K Luxury for PS3 Gamers

Mt.Fuji and SWC (RICOH GR-DIGITAL II) by potopoto53age

unterwäsche große größen

Just when you thought the console war was nearing the end it seems that all the tricks are being pulled out of the hat. Eight weeks ago it seemed pretty simple to choose which console you needed. If you were a parent with several kids, a recreational gamer with a lot of friends, or just a Nintendo fanboy it was pretty clear that the super popular Wii was your choice. Like online play, an endless amount of games to choose from, and great integration of Netflix and Media Center for your home entertainment? Then the Xbox 360 was your obvious choice. A single adult gamer with large amounts of money to spend on a console and blu-ray movies, then you might enjoy the PS3 the most.

Then Sony announced that they were not only dropping the price on their console but dropping it on a brand new version. In response Xbox dropped the Pro and Elite prices (discontinuing the Pro). Finally Wii announced its own price drop starting this week and just like that everything is up in the air again.

But choosing one of these consoles requires more than just looking at the new consumer appeasing price drops. With your purchase you're investing in the console's future and what it will have to offer you. With that mindset, the best console could very well be the last place PS3 that was originally thought to be a bad investment for Sony. Along with the price drop and comes a more efficient console. From this you can expect more games (developers love the new price drop because it means more sales), better looking games with the only console with games in true 1080 HD, and a possibly faster processor that will make games run faster without as many hiccups. Also there is the promising motion controller that should be due sometime next spring. Should I mention that the online play is completely free as well? Always a nice bonus.

Xbox 360 is not giving up their share of the market so easy. They've already recently released huge games in Halo 3: ODST and Beatles Rockband, and there's more to come. They have the best online community around. You pay for it but it's so polished that it's completely worth it. Then there's Media Center and Netflix integration, that should be exclusive for quite some time. I'm not the hugest fan of the Media Center on this thing (the only experience I've had with it has been riddled with lag) but the Netflix is unlike anything any other system can offer right now. And at this year's E3 conference they announced Facebook, Twitter, and Last FM integration as well. Project Natal is worth noting here because it's a very cool idea, however there's no confirmed release date, and I'm not completely sold on how well it will actually work. I'm thinking it'll end up being more of a sales gimmick than anything to use reasonably right now.

Where I think you can pass on a system (unless the system is for your kids) is the Wii. Originally when this all started I was more excited about the Wii than the other two. However Nintendo has stuck to their guns about refusing to release content for a more mature gamer, and refusing to acknowledge the now crucial role of online play and an online community. The best thing they have on the horizon is a remade Super Mario Bros. which looks like great fun but cannot save a console that has absolutely no high definition support.

While I think Sony has the most to offer from here on, grabbing a 360 wouldn't hurt you at all. I'd still limit Wii purchases to families and people with several friends who come over with nothing to do.

If I was forced to pick what I thought are the best SLR lenses, it would likely be either the Tamron AF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 LD for Canon Digital SLR Cameras, the Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras, or the Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Di LD Macro Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras. Sure, they’re all for Canon cameras, but they’re also all for under $200 dollars, and deliver great value for the dollar.

Let’s take a closer look, at not just the SLR lenses, but the cameras that use those lenses.

Lucky me, as today I get, to illuminate you in all things SLR related. Like learning anything new, it takes a little determination to get truly comfortable using a SLR. Make the best use of your time, and don’t expend too much time questioning trivial pros and cons of your camera purchase, or you’ll never get around to taking pictures.

Well, let’s start things up shall we. This might not make a lot of sense, but the staggering amount of technology in these babies, is good for you. Stick with me, and I’ll prove it to you. Just ask anyone directly involved in the business of digital photography, and they’ll tell you how challenging and demanding the market is. Manufacturers and salesman alike, have to offer more and more features with their DSLRs and bribe consumers with the best prices.

So, it may seem hard to believe, but all this competition and high technology is about to make you a much happier consumer. I will promise, that you will be happy with your purchase, no matter which of the top SLR cameras you buy. You likely couldn’t find a horrific SLR camera from the top rated cameras if you tried. To prove it, just have a look at the features in this bunch of SLRs. It would be hard to be faulted with a Canon Rebel XSi, now that prices have dropped with the T1i release. I’m also a fan of the Olympus Evolt model line, or the Nikon D90.

You know that getting any of these cameras for between five hundred and a thousand dollars is bound to make any photographer do the happy dance. At these prices, digital SLRs are really one of the few remaining gadget values left today. Those early adopters among us that spent big money for very basic digital cameras in the not so distant past, will remember.

I make these sweeping generalizations when it comes to photography, because I know, that the camera you have in your hands is only one consideration in the workmanship of your photographic images. You and your ability to make out quality photo opportunities are really of greater value when it comes to freezing a moment in time. A gifted photographer can take insightful photographs with just about any camera.

Plenty of folks are choosing to buy digital cameras lenses from the internet presently. Most trustworthy camera websites have lower priced SLR lenses, and a larger selection, then even your local neighbourhood camera retailer can provide.

Even with so many DSLR choices, finding digital SLRs and lenses online is pretty painless. Well, you can’t research forever, it time to choose. Believe me, taking photographs is way more fun, than looking through camera reviews.

Getting The Best SLR Lenses, is never an easy thing, especially with the way digital technology is constantly changing. Fortunately, there are plenty of helpful websites online, that can narrow down your search and help you find the SLR lens with all the features important to you.

The future of a company or institution depends on the performance of their employees and students. Education professionals always come up with new ideas to improve overall performance of students and institutions. These ideas are implemented in the form of new techniques and learning aids in teaching. This information given to the student not only helps them, but also helps the institution to maintain a good track record. What Is Six Sigma?A technique to achieve strategic business results, Six Sigma is a customer-based approach, which shows that neglecting defects can turn out very expensive for the company or institution. The fewer risks a company is exposed to, the lesser the possibilities of losing customers.Origin Of Six SigmaIn the 1980’s, under threat from its Japanese counterpart, Motorola came up with a concept to counter the situation. The success of this concept is witnessed in the profit and expansion of companies like General Electric (GE) and Allied Signal.Culture And Techniques Used In Six SigmaCulture may be very unnecessary, but by merely changing it, companies can be very successful. This culture includes not just the Quality Leaders, Black Belts and Green Belts, but everyone in the company. After following a process of identifying the problem in a process and charting out the course to address it, the process is evaluated and worked upon.By reducing the number of defects from a process to 3.4 defectives per million, Six Sigma raises the level of customer satisfaction. In companies, everyone strives to achieve targets by introducing a change in their work environment and way of functioning.Education And Six SigmaSix Sigma is the appropriate tool where quality management is concerned. In an educational setting, teachers are the work force and parents are the customers.
The latter tend to pay the fees and expect their wards to get good and qualitative results. By improving teaching techniques, teachers expect a positive change in the performance of their students. This change is expected to last for a stipulated time for the acquired profit to remain constant.Six Sigma ImplementationThe first step before the implementation is to recognize the problem and define a project to lessen or completely eradicate the problem. These projects are led by the Green Belts and assisted by the Black Belts. Using a DMAIC (Define. Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control) theory the following steps are takenStarting from the senior most level, basic six sigma principles are taught. This creates an environment for innovation and creativity. Thereafter, a module is developed in order to establish a close communication between teachers and students. This module involves preparing a method to obtain and evaluate everyone’s input. In educational settings, teachers help in building a data by conducting a study.ConclusionBy applying Six Sigma to education, a positive change in teaching methods and a consequential positive result is bound to happen. Proper education paves the way for qualitative learning for everyone. By implementing the right techniques, the road ahead would be smooth enough to reach the desired goals.By: Tony Jacowski

Six members of Sigma Gamma Rho at Rutgers University — an 88-year-old national Greek organization — allegedly subjected one pledge to nightly beating for eight days, authorities say.

Beginning Jan. 18, the hapless initiate was denied food and slapped on the buttocks with a wooden paddle in a cruel rite designed to “humble” her.

The victim's rear end became so bloody and wounded that she had to be hospitalized. Six students have been charged.

News of the sick ritual hit a raw nerve at the college's New Brunswick, NJ, campus yesterday.

Mitsubishi 73″ DLP HDTV Review

nintendo ds by Artisan Cakes by e.t. (now in Penang!)

Sick of staring at that old square tube television that's been collecting dust in your living room? If you're ready to make the leap to a High Definition Television (HDTV) but are unsure of just what to look for, then this article is for you.

What is HDTV exactly?

To understand HDTV it is probably best to first look at a standard definition tube TV set. The average tube TV displays an image in 480i format. That translates to 480 vertical lines, of an interlaced image. The aspect ratio is 4:3 making the screen appear nearly square.

HDTV's have a much higher screen resolution that produces a far superior image. There are three current standards for HDTV's and they again refer to the amount of vertical lines: 720p, 1080i, and 1080p. All three HDTV standards support 5.1 surround sound and are broadcasted in a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio.

In general, the higher the resolution the better the picture will look. A progressive image is almost always better than an interlaced one. The only caveat to this rule is that the screen may flicker during fast action sequences of a progressive image.

Most current HDTV's display 720p and 1080i resolutions, the higher priced ones usually offer 1080p.

Tube vs. Plasma vs. LCD HDTV's

Tube HDTV's only have one thing going for them, they display the best shade of black. Beyond that, they are extremely heavy and no less expensive than plasma or LCD HDTV's. They are limited in screen size by the weight of the tube. I would not recommend a tube HDTV for anyone.

Plasma HDTV's on other hand do have many benefits. They are often less expensive and display a better shade of black than their LCD HDTV brethren. Plasma HDTV's also excel at displaying fast motion with minimal screen flicker.

Plasma HDTV's do however have some drawbacks to consider. They are susceptible to screen burn-in and not recommended for gamers. The life of a plasma HDTV is much less than an LCD. Once the Plasma gas is gone, it is gone and image quality will literally be cut in half. Plasma HDTV's are also difficult to install. If they are tilted past a certain angle (while boxed or otherwise) the television can be ruined. Professional installation and delivery is the smart way to go when dealing with plasma TV's.

For the sports fan who wants to watch Sunday football games in HD, plasma is probably for you. Everyone else should be in the market for an LCD HDTV.

LCD HDTV's are the way to go for just about everyone. They do not suffer from burn-in issues, and have a longer lifespan while maintaining the same picture quality as they had from day one. The lamps on them (which Plasma HDTV's also have) are the only thing that might need replacing, but with a 60,000 hour lifespan it won't be anytime soon. Prices are coming down on LCD HDTV's and a typical 42″ TV weighs about 70 lbs.

HDTV Buying Tips

There are two options for cables, either component cables or HDMI cables. HDMI cables are a little more expensive but much easier to work with.

When buying an HDTV stick with the three S's: Sony Bravia, Samsung, or Sharp. These three brands produce the best televisions and have the best image quality by far.

To get the most out of your HDTV you need to receive an HDTV signal. This means you need a HDTV cable or satellite box or an HDTV antenna to pickup up over the air HD signals. I would suggest getting a Bluray or HDDVD player as well.

Bluray is way ahead in the HDDVD war. The Sony PS3 is one of the least expensive Bluray players on the market and is the perfect addition for your new HDTV.

The best piece of advice I can offer is to wait until you can afford a few hundred extra dollars to get a bigger and better television. Don't settle for a bottom of the line 37″. Instead wait a few months and buy the 42″ or larger that you really want. You'll thank yourself later.

PENTAX Optio H90

A compact, lightweight, popular-class digital compact camera, packed with an array of user-friendly features and convenient functions

HOYA CORPORATION PENTAX Imaging Systems Division is pleased to announce the launch of the PENTAX Optio H90 digital compact camera. Developed under PENTAX’s new “functional beauty” concept, the Optio H90 combines a functional, no-frills design with a full assortment of solid, basic features to accommodate a variety of subjects and scenes.

Positioned as an easy-to-operate, popular-class model, the Optio H90 features a high-performance wide-to-telephoto 5X optical zoom lens, approximately 12.1 effective megapixels, a large, easy-to-view LCD monitor, and simple operations, all in a compact, lightweight body. To ensure simplified, flawless operation and superb operability, scrupulous attention has been paid to every detail, including the position, shape, texture and quality of each part, and the operability and accessibility of every controller. As the result, the Optio H90 fits comfortably in the photographer’s hand and operates flawlessly under all photographic conditions.

Major Features

1. Solid, impeccable design, derived from the pursuit of functional beauty
The Optio H90 sports a simple, extremely functional design, with extensive use of straight lines and easy-to-push round control buttons efficiently positioned for easy access. To achieve the unparalleled functional beauty in the Optio H90 as an everyday photographic tool, PENTAX paid the utmost attention to every detail in design, material and finish. High-quality aluminum alloy is used for the camera’s upper front section; the entire lens barrel is coated with matte black paint; and the grip is shaped for a firm, comfortable hold.

2. Optical 5X zoom lens for wide coverage from wide angle to telephoto
Despite its compact dimensions, the Optio H90 features a high-performance optical 5X zoom lens covering focal lengths from 5.1mm to 25.5mm (equivalent in the 35mm format to approximately 28mm wide angle to 140mm telephoto). Thanks to this wide zoom range, the Optio H90 can be used for a wide variety of subjects and scenes — from spectacular landscapes, majestic architecture and group shots within confined spaces, to tightly cropped snapshots from a distance. When coupled with the Intelligent Zoom function — which allows for even tighter zooming in on the subject — the zoom range can be extended to approximately 31.3 times.

3. Exceptional image quality
Coupling approximately 12.1 effective megapixels assuring exceptional image resolution with the PENTAX-developed high-performance imaging engine assuring faithful colour reproduction, the Optio H90 delivers brilliant, high-quality images with well-defined details. Even when images are enlarged to larger sizes, the user is assured of sharp, high-resolution prints with edge-to-edge sharpness.

4. Large, easy-to-view LCD monitor
Despite its compact body, the Optio H90 features a large 2.7-inch high-brightness colour LCD monitor with approximately 230,000 dots. Since this monitor delivers large images and menus, the user can check them at a quick glance and easily make the desired settings and adjustments.

5. High-quality HD-proportioned movie recording
The Optio H90 captures beautiful, high-definition-TV-quality movie clips (1280 x 720 pixels).* It also comes equipped with the sophisticated Movie SR (Shake Reduction) mode,** which automatically compensates camera shake during movie shooting with the help of exclusive software, making it possible for everyone to enjoy high-quality movie shooting with minimal effort.

* When the Optio H90’s AV output terminal is used, movie clips are output as normal-image-size data. If the user wishes to play back movie clips at high-definition-TV proportions (1280 x 720 pixels), the data must be transferred to a personal computer for playback.

** When the Movie SR mode is selected, the angle of view becomes narrower than normal shooting.

6. Automatic face detection for effortless snapshots
The Optio H90 features the sophisticated Face Detection AF & AE function, a great tool in casual shooting of people. This user-friendly function instantly and accurately detects up to 32 faces in the image field, then optimises focus and exposure settings in a mere 0.03 seconds — even when some of the faces are tilted or turned sideways. The Optio H90 also comes equipped with other convenient features to assist the photographer in capturing beautiful snapshots, including: the Smile Capture mode that automatically releases the shutter the moment the camera detects the subject’s smile; and the Blink Detection function that warns the photographer when the subject’s eyes close at the time of shutter release.

7. Other features
1) Pixel Track SR (Shake Reduction) mode to effectively compensate for camera shake during still-image shooting
2) Auto Picture mode for automatic selection of one of eight shooting modes for optimum results
3) Digital filters, including Toy Camera and Retro, to add distinctive visual effects to recorded images
4) D-Range setting to prevent whitewashed (overexposed) and blacked-out (underexposed) areas in an image
5) Auto-tracking AF mode to keep constant focus on a moving subject
6) Digital Panorama mode to create a single panoramic picture from as many as three images
7) Digital Wide function to compose an extra-wide-angle picture (equivalent to an image taken with an approx. 21mm lens in 35mm format) from two images
8) Frame Composite function (with 90 frames stored in the camera) to shoot or compose images with decorative photo frames
9) Image Recovery function to recover accidentally erased images
10) MediaImpression 2.0 for PENTAX software for image viewing, editing and filing (compatible with the latest operating systems, including Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.6)

A discovery on an online reseller's website Sunday (since pulled) has revealed that Pentax plans to draw attention at the upcoming PMA photography show with two unique cameras. The Optio H90 and L10 (pictured at top) will both carry a vintage look, with the former carrying some of the style of a rangefinder while the L10 will resemble a conventional film camera. Little is immediately shown in the images beyond the look, though the L10 will have a 5X, 5.1-25.5mm lens; both are regular compact cameras rather than Micro Four Thirds or DSLR models.

Although no release dates are attached to the images, Photo Rumors notes a previous tip that had put the launch of new cameras this Tuesday and that a “special retro design” would grace at least one of these models. Either camera should be relatively conventional in features apart from the look.

Launch information is still absent, but a third model could appear at the same time.

The Pentax Optio I-10, H90, and E90 are all budget-friendly cameras that are on the verge of being released by Pentax.  Pentax is releasing the trio of cameras soon, and each camera is unique in its own way.

The I-10 camera is SLR-inspired.  The camera has a 5x zoom and a 12.1 megapixel sensor.  The camera also has smile capture technology, face detection and image stabilization for trembling hands.

The H90 is a retro and classy camera that features a HD video and also has a 5x zoom and 12.1 megapixels, however, it’s considerably cheaper than the I-10.  The reason the H90 is cheaper is because it has a lower costs lens sensor.

The E90 camera is 10 megapixels and has a 3x zoom and a 2.7-inch LCD.  The E90 is the most budget friendly of the three cameras being released from Pentax.

Although release dates have not been completely clarified, there is expectation that the cameras should be released very soon.  All three cameras were developed to be fashionable and affordable.  When Pentax created the cameras they did so with the concept of “Functional Beauty”.

The cameras will all have a high quality leatherette texture and each will have the classic Pentax logo on the front and center of the camera.
